How I Healed From Chronic Pain

18 months ago, I broke my leg.

My second baby was a few days short of turning 3 months old, and tears spilled out of my eyes when the doctor told me: “You need to use crutches for 9 weeks”.

I felt overwhelmed; how could I possibly work, care for 2 small kids, live on the third floor without an elevator, and use crutches for 9 weeks. In addition, my body was still catching up after giving birth, I wasn’t sleeping at night, I had no support (my husband aside), and we were in the thick of COVID, where it was impossible to hire help.

I was gutted. I, the fit girl, the nutritionist, the ex-yogini, and runner, had to avoid exercising and dealing with pain for quite a while.

9 weeks seemed such a long time. But, in hindsight, it was just a blip in the journey.

Two months after the head of the femur chipped, I was still dealing with unbearable pain.

“How did you do it” people kept asking me all the time.

All I could remember was climbing the stairs while holding my baby when I felt the most atrocious pain in my right hip. I suddenly knew that something was wrong. I just didn’t know how wrong.

The pain kept showing up without fail. Finally, I started swimming to relieve pressure on my hips and with the hope of remaining…
